There are many additional awards scouts can earn for extra activities in addition to the traditional scouting awards and rank advancement. Some recognition can be earned by any rank scout while others are only available to specific ranks. These awards can be used to recognize extra effort by a scout in an area of interest, below are just a few of the awards which can be earned:
Firem'n Chit
This award grants a Scout the right to carry matches and build campfires; the Scout must show his Scout leader or someone designated by his leader, that he understands his responsibility to complete the eight requirements needed to earn this award. The Scout's "Firem'n Rights" can be taken from him if he fails in his responsibility.
Totin' Chip
This certification grants a Scout the right to carry and use wood tools. The Scout must show his Scout leader or someone designated by his leader, that he understands his responsibility to complete the six requirements to earn this award. The Scout's "Totin' Rights" can be taken from him if he fails in his responsibility.
Paul Bunyan Woodsman
This award can be achieved after you have earned the Totin' Chip. It encourages proper use of wood tools, training others in Totin' Chip skills, and creating a simple outdoor project using acquired wood tool skills.
Year-Round Camper
This award is earned by camping outdoors at least one night in each of the twelve consecutive months using an approved shelter, and recognized preparation of one meal on one of the overnight campouts.
