Troop 68 Youth Leadership is elected in June and December for six-month terms.  A description of the positions and their duties appears below.  A current list of troop leadership and  roster is available in the "Members Only" section of our website. 

Elected Troop Positions

Senior Patrol Leader

Qualifications -Star Rank or above and YLT Trained

• responsible to Scoutmaster
• preside at all troop meetings, events, activities, and annual program planning conference
• is the chair of the patrol leader's council and is also a voting member
• make a written report to the PLC each month expressing his opinions of how the troop is running
• create and make sure meeting agendas are followed so meeting runs smoothly
• call patrol leaders once a week to notify them of upcoming events
• report to Scoutmaster or other adult if problem arises
• make decisions that represent the opinions of the majority of troop members
• make sure patrol leaders and other scouts in positions of responsibility are doing their job
• work with Scoutmaster in training junior leaders

Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders

Qualifications - Star Rank or above and YLT Trained

• responsible to Scoutmaster
• available at troop meetings, campouts, and the PLC
• is a voting member of the PLC and makes a written report expressing his opinions of how the troop is running
• support, assist, and answer to the SPL
• responsible for training and giving direct leadership to the following appointed junior leaders: Scribe, Librarian, Historian, Instructors, Quartermasters, and the Chaplain Aide
• assists SPL in making sure scouts in leadership positions are doing their job
• responsible for SPL's tasks if SPL is absent

Patrol Leader

• responsible to SPL and ASPLs
• available at troop meetings, campouts, and the PLC
• is a voting member of the PLC and writes a patrol report every month
• attend all campouts or ascertain that his assistant will attend
• responsible for a patrol of 6 - 10 Scouts
• responsible for a patrol flag
• prepare patrol for all events and develops patrol spirit
• call the members of the patrol once a week to inform them of upcoming events
• support decisions of SPL and ASPL
• record attendance of patrol at all events and submits information to the Scribe
• assist all patrol members in advancement, reviews his handbook at meetings and campouts

Assistant Patrol Leader

• responsible to patrol leader
• available at troop meetings, campouts, and the PLC
• assist the patrol leader in planning patrol activities, keeping patrol members informed, and preparing patrol to take part in events
• take charge of patrol in absence of patrol leader, including taking his place at the PLC if needed
• help develop patrol spirit

Troop Scribe

• responsible to ASPL and Adult Secretary and Treasurer
• available at troop meetings, campouts, and the PLC
• is the secretary of the PLC, taking notes and collecting records in a log
• gather patrol attendance records and records troop attendance
• alert Scoutmaster of Scouts with low attendance
• work with troop committee members responsible for finance, records, and advancement
• record troop advancement
• submit one page summary of the troop every month to be put in local paper

Troop Librarian

• responsible to ASPL
• available at troop meetings and campouts
• responsible for having updated, current lists of troop roster, patrol rosters, merit badge counselor lists
• must have library at all meetings, maintaining it and adding or replacing items that are needed
• must keep system to check literature in and out, and follow up on late returns
• make announcements once a month about library, new additions, donations, and people with books out

Troop Historian

• responsible to ASPL
• available at troop meetings and campouts
• take and gather pictures from all events, gather facts about past activities, and display them in scrapbooks and displays
• keep binder of records from meeting plans, campout plans, attendance records, QM reports, patrol reports, Scribe's reports, and other important papers
• take care of trophies and keepsakes
• keep information about troop alumni

Troop Quartermaster

• responsible to ASPL and Adult Quartermasters
• available at troop meetings, campouts, and the PLC
• also available at gear return and pickup
• keep records of patrol and troop equipment, taking an inventory every three months
• distribute all patrol gear to grub master and gear master of each patrol, keeping records
• keep records of distribution of other troop gear
• make list at campouts of who takes what gear home
• make sure all gear is returned, checking for cleanliness
• responsible for the condition of all troop gear, making sure everything is in good repair
• suggest new or replacement items
• create a damage report on all gear, and reports problems to adults

Troop Chaplain Aide

• responsible to ASPL and Chaplain
• available at troop meetings and campouts
• keep troop leaders aware of religious holidays when planning activities
• assist Chaplain or religious coordinator in meeting religious needs of troop members while on activities
• encourage saying grace at meals while camping or on activities, have prayers available
• tell troop members about religious emblem program of their faith
• must attend and help organize Scout Sunday services
• must make an appropriate prayer at end of all meetings and Courts of Honor
• responsible for making and running a short service at all troop campouts

Appointed Troop Positions

Troop Guide

• responsible to SPL and the Assistant Scoutmaster assigned to his patrol
• available at troop meetings at 7:00pm and at campouts
• help scouts meet advancement requirements through First Class
• advise patrol leader on duties and responsibilities
• appointed to help one new scout patrol, camping and meeting with them
• help train patrol leader of that patrol
• help guide scouts through early experiences to help them become comfortable in the troop

Troop Instructor

• responsible to ASPL
• available at troop meetings at 7:00pm and at campouts
• instruct a particular skill as needed within troop or patrol
• prepare well in advance for each teaching assignment

Den Chief

• responsible to ASM of the new scout patrol
• available at all Cub Scout activities for the pack you choose
• meet regularly with den leader to review den or pack meeting plans
• if a Webelos den chief, prepare boys to join Boy Scouting and Troop 68

Junior Assistant Scoutmasters

• responsible to Scoutmaster
• available at troop meetings, campouts, and the PLC
• function as an assistant Scoutmaster (except for leadership responsibilities reserved for adults)
• act as an advisor and gives assistance to all Scout leaders
• accomplish any duties assigned by the Scoutmaster
